The unleashing of groups such as DEF RYHMES, DA FUNK SQUAD, Naughtius
Maximus and PMO in the early 90s have introduced hip-hop culture in Malaysia. This insurgence of this genre has opened the way for a bunch of guys called Da Joint.
Da Joint was formed in the early 1996 when a bunch of guys got together and dropped rhymes just for fun. Later in 1997 they started to perform with their own lyrics over several minus-ones.
In the early march 1998, the group final
ly earned their chance to perform in a gig tribute to the passing of the late Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, which managed to draw an estimated crowd of 1000 people. They have also performed in several major events such as the D.M.C (DJ MIXING COM.), Vinyl Junkies, Hip-hop fiesta, Bangsar Street Carnival, the Galaxie Street Party among others.
The group comprises of 3 members "G", Sam Sneeze, and REZ.
G influences and style come from ragga meisters such as G-Flexx, Shabba Ranks, and Shaggy. His love for the art of hip-hop has since evolutionised to more Asiatic inspirations. Rez's influences include heavyweights such as Cypress Hill and Da Beastie Boys. Last but not least Sam Sneeze whom had aspirations of being a rapper since his teenage years.
Da Joint's first hit single (Da carnival) is already on the radio airwaves, from number 9 to the top of the list. The musical concept Malaysian Traditional Street hip-hop music which is a hybrid of, local music elements with hip-hop music, thus creating a whole new different sound which will change the publics views on hip-hop music
